PRESIDENTS REPORT

Hello Members,

We have spoken to Syd Bray regarding a noise complaint at the field regarding large aerobatic models and jet aircraft. Syd said that he wasn't complaining, he was just pointing out that our neighbours might if we don't put a cap on it soon. The comment about the jet noise was how similar to the real aircraft they are.

We have also notified Syd that we no longer require the area to the right of our entry road for helicopters.

George Joyner and Peter Tompkins seem to have the Air Show and displays at the shopping centres well in hand, but require a lot of help from the members leading up to and including the big day. Remember this is the last meeting and things happen fast from now on.

It has been brought to my attention that we are losing some of our committee members at the AGM, so if you think you would like to have a go at steering the ship please put your hand up and nominate at the July meeting.

Colin Parry.

Air Field Chit Chat

Hi Fellow Flyers,

I missed the May issue of Air Waves due to a very heavy level of personal commitments, so I shall try to include all the things that have happened over the last two months.

In May Mike O’Reilly went to Tin Can Bay to fly in the Pattern competition arranged by QPFA and Mike won the Sportsman Section. I do not know his score or wether he got any promotion points. Congratulations Mike.
James McAllen, who is President of QPFA was also at Tin Can Bay for the meet and was flying in Advanced Section and I believe he had a most spectacular crash. Unfortunately he was flying his “John Payne” Cyclone and it was a complete write off. We all know the feeling James.

Dave Harper did the near impossible by landing one of his electric models in a tree top in that wooded area that is an extension of our main runway. A few members went with Dave to see what was the damage and Dave returned some time later to get a rope. Dave then returned to the scene and all returned some time latter with the plane intact and with only minor damage. Rob Moore was noticed to be limping and when I enquired he explained that the rope that Dave got did not have a weight to enable them to throw at the plane. Rob donated one of his sneakers for the task. It is good to see that Rob has got his priorities right, planes are more important than shoes.

Therese and Graham Ross are going to Canada for a holiday and will be away for about two months. This means that the canteen is in need of some volunteers to provide a basic range of food for the lunch periods for Saturdays and Sundays say, form 11.30am to 2.00pm.
Food offered could be Hot Dogs and Sausage Sizzle and Onions or other simple items.

Maybe a few members can volunteer and we run a roster. The Canteen service provided by Therese has been very successful, not only in providing food but giving the members a focus point for fellowship. Please contact President Col with your offer to help in this regard. Our Club needs you.
The club shirts are now available at the clubhouse shed at the flying field. They are $20.00 each, so see Rob Moore or any of the committee members to get your order. There are a few extra shirts available if you did not place an order.

FLYING HIGH
BY C.F.I
.

Nothing to report on the club championship this month as round 3 is yet to be held. Sunday 22 June, 2008 will be the next round. Join in and have some fun. Currently Gordon Bartils and Nadine Lindner share first place and second place is shared by Peter West, David Turton and Keith Berry.

HINT FOR THE MONTH.
MAKING YOUR MOTOR LAST LONGER.
Apart from impact damage, your Super-Blurter 46 will deteriorate from wear. The wear is greatly accelerated by ingestion of dirt and dust. To minimise this problem, try the following:-

  1. A piece of fine mesh, e.g. a small piece cut out of mum’s stocking secured over the carby intake with an O ring. – replace regularly.

  2. Do not run the motor at high revs at ground level.

  3. Avoid taxying over bare dirt patches.

  4. Place your model on a carpet square. A cheap car floor mat is ideal.

Do you have a good modelling hint? Let me know. Best hint of the year will win 2 free flights on the club trainer.

The club has hosted elderly visitors from a Caboolture Aged care facility several times and the oldies really enjoy their outing to our field. Len Smith from this facility has built for us an honour board which looks great in the clubhouse. Len is also making a cabinet to display our trophies. Many thanks Len.

  4. Club Computer: Peter Somerfeld reported the computer is now being fixed, but may take a little time.

Moved: C. Parry Seconded: N. Tyler Carried

Further Business:

  1. Complaint re noise from large planes & jets: Apparently someone reported to a club member that the large planes & jets were making noise in excess of 96db. It was agreed that planes should be checked for excessive noise. Club has sound meter in kitchen area. CFI Kerry reported the meter was not well calibrated & he doubted if it was any good as it was quite old. He also doubted that the aircraft in question were exceeding the 96db rule. However, he would do his best to check things out. Members their aircraft should not produce a noise level over 96db.

  2. BBQ being used inside Clubhouse: Jeff Hunwick reported that using the BBQ inside the clubhouse caused vapor damage to the electrical equipment. It also caused ingress of vermin which could also cause damage to the electrical equipment. It was agreed the BBQ shall not be used inside the clubhouse building. In inclement weather it could be used in the outdoor covered area.

  3. 2.4 Mhz Transmitters: It was reported that some members using 2.4 Mhz transmitters were not placing their transmitters and keys in the pound. It was agreed that this item should be noted in Airwaves. It was also noted the 2.4 Mhz keyboard needs repair. It was agreed that the board be reinstated with a simple key hook type board: noted for working bee.

  4. Park Flyers permitted to use Heli area: Fran Sutherland asked if it was still club practice to allow park flyers to use heli area, when the area was not being used by helicopters. It was agreed that this practice was allowed providing planes were small and the receivers & transmitters having been band width tested.

  5. Hand Transmitters: Dave Wherrett said there was a problem mid week when the canteen was not opened , gaining access to the transmitters. CFI Kerry said the Transmitters would be kept in the Instructor’s cupboard and anyone with a key would be able to gain access.
New Helicopter flying area: Chris said Rod Garrett told Col Parry the new flying area was unsuitable due to:
    (a) Closeness of trees made flying hazardous, and
    (b) Dust from road was a problem, and
    (c) Horses were being friendly and a nuisance to aircraft & pilots.
It was agreed the use of this area shall cease. Sid & Noelene Bray to be notified that the club has no need to rent this area.

  6. Helicopter flying including 3D Flying: Motion that all helicopter flying excluding those using the heli training area shall be performed in the general flying area. No 3D helicopter flying whilst fixed wing aircraft flying. It was agreed in that this shall be by mutual agreement between the helicopter & fixed wing pilots as it is when jets are flying. All pilots must use the pilot compound area. Aerobatics by all pilots to be in the display area in front of the pilot compound behind the runways. Rules to be re-written and inserted in the club by-laws.
Moved: Dave Harper Seconded: Kerry Turton Carried

  7. Cattle Grid: Kerry Turton brought it to the attention that the grid into the club rented land area is rusted through in places. Stephen Godbold said he will look at getting some materials to fix the problem.

Closure: The meeting closed at 21.27 hours

COMMITTEE BY LINES

At the recent committee meeting the following matters were discussed:

The club Christmas Party is scheduled for Sunday 7th December starting at 12.30. Cost to be announced. We need to book the caterers early, hence the early decision on the date.

Peter Atkinson has offered to assist Gordon Grant with the Treasurer’s job. Many thanks to Peter for his offer.

Peter Somerfield has informed us that due to work commitments he will be unable to continue as Secretary after the AGM. Is there someone out there willing to take on this very important job? Please contact the committee if you can help!

It has been suggested that a gazebo-type structure be erected between the clubhouse and the car park to house the BBQ. Any suggestions or offers of a suitable structure to the committee please

.
Helpers are needed to man the static display stalls at both Morayfield and North Lakes Shopping Centres during the week before the Air Show. The dates are Mon-Wed 21st-23rd July at both venues. The stalls need to be manned from about 8am to 5pm on all three days. The more volunteers we have, the less time each has to be on duty! It’s a fun way to spread the good word about our hobby! Please contact George Joyner to put your name down.

George is also looking for more helpers for the catering on Air Show day – Sunday 27th July. His phone no is 3204 5203.

There will also be a ‘trash and treasure’ stall at the Air Show – contact George or Marge Joyner at the above number if you’re interested in helping with that.

Many thanks to Dave Anderson for fitting the night latch lock to the clubroom door. This means that if you are the last one at the field, the clubroom is open and you don’t have a key, you can now just slam the door and the clubroom will be secure. Please also drop the roller shutters and fit the security pins in the locking bars!
