FUEL Once the current stocks of Nitro are exhausted the price will rise to $26.00/litre. For those that use it , the club now stocks RED Coolpower. PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hello Members The last working bee was a bit of a mess, having to cancel the cherry picker and all. Thank you to all the members who turned up in the wet conditions and still did their bit. You will be happy to know the trees were lopped on the western end of the main strip and the roof has been built over the tractor. Thank you to all who took part in these projects. We seem to have a problem with pilots wanting to fly before the working bee is finished. This is a safety issue and flying will only commence when the person in charge of the working bee calls an end to it As a trial it has been suggested we sell 1litre containers of fuel at $8.00 per litre for our juniors who might be working on a tight budget. It has been brought to our attention again that 2.4GHZ radios are still not being placed in the pound, it is a requirement of this club that all radios be placed in the pound while not in use. Keys for 2.4GHZ must have a Club sticker with your name on it and be removed after each and every flight. The canteen has had a face lift, much to Graham and Therese’s dismay. It seemed a lot of their cooking gear went missing and Graham spat the dummy until he found said gear in one of the containers. Thank you to those people who helped clean and tidy the canteen. Don’t forget the free Christmas-in-July BBQ on Saturday 19 July. This is the committee’s way of thanking the membership for working bees and such throughout the year. (Last Sat - Ed) Peter Tompkins tells me that we still have a shortage of pilots for the air show. Please, if you would like to fly in this show and you are gold wing standard (not necessarily with gold wings) talk to Peter). Many thanks to Steve Godbold and Bob Moore for their hard work in building the new roof over the third container and tractor. Now I would like to finish on a happy note and wish Ben Staines a Happy Birthday from the membership of PRAMS. Happy 80th Ben. |

Air Field Chit Chat Hi Fellow Flyers Again an eventful month and beautiful weather for flying models. There has been some rain but on the whole the weather has been kind to us The QPFA held a round of their competitions at our field on 12th and 13th and had keen competition. Unfortunately James Mc Allen crashed his plane on the Saturday and Catherine Newman had a fatality on her last flight on the Sunday afternoon. Apparently Catherine flew very well for a first timer. Here are the results: SPORTSMAN ADVANCED
EXPERT F3A It appears as though that Simon and Josiah gained Promotion Points in this competition. Flyers came from Bundaberg and Larks as well as Prams Robert Moore suggested some time ago that we give Ben Staines some recognition for his 80th birthday which fell on 19th July. Rob also pointed out that Ben had been in the PRAMS for 40years as he joined on or a few days after his 40th birthday. This being the case we arranged to have a suitable plaque made and engraved to celebrate the occasion and several of us gatecrashed Bens’ Lunchtime party. President Col gave a small speech and presented the Plaque to Ben. It was obvious that Ben had a great day. Unfortunately Sunday was not so good. Ben came to the field with his ever robust 747 model and took off. He said he was going to do some cunning stunts. Alas Ben crashed his 12 year old model in a vertical dive a few metres in front of the pilot’s area. Bad luck Ben. The Air Show is very well organised and I think it will be the best for some time. The rain last week has made the grassed area that we use for car parking a little wet and more rain is forecast for the coming week. We will have to access the situation close to the 26th and make a decision if the Airs Show goes ahead or has to be postponed or cancelled. We will give you more details at the General Meeting on Friday 25th July. The Westerner News Paper has given us a great write up for the Air Show which included a photo of Jim Fagan with two of his models Last night 72 members came to our Christmas in July BBQ and all had a good time. I am sure that no one went home hungry. There were plenty of steaks, sausages and steakettes as well as salads. Jim Fagan was in charge of the desserts and did us proud with a great selection from the Cheese Cake Shop. Of course they were all calorie free so everyone could eat them. It is near
the end of July and your membership fees must be in by the 31st
July to allow you to fly thereafter. To date we have received 169 renewals
however there are still 106 members that have not paid as yet. Just a
reminder. Danny Hollis assures me that all cards have been sent out to
members who have paid fees up to Wednesday 16th
July . I have a further 6 Payments to process and get to Danny. Well that is about all for the moment, good flying, Gordon Grant FLYING HIGH Round 3 of the club championship was flown on Sunday 22 June, 2008. A field of 10 members took part. The task was a spot landing within a set time. All models survived the competition without damage and all appeared to enjoy the event. The next round will be held on Sunday 3 August, 2008. This round will be organised by our current leader, Gordon Bartils. Join in and have some fun. Current
placings are:- 2nd. Nadine Lindner 3rd. Keith Berry and David Turton HINT FOR THE MONTH. COMPUTER FLIGHT SIMULATOR If you would like to practice your model flying on your computer without a large cash outlay on an expensive flight simulator program, download F.M.S. flight simulator which is a free download. This is not a sophisticated program and is very easy to operate. Despite advice you may hear to the contrary, this program will run on a J.R. transmitter with the standard buddy-box lead into the microphone port. Do you have a good modelling hint? Let me know. Best hint of the year will win 3 free flights on the club trainer. SOUND METER With all the new housing development near the field we must address the possibility of our noise becoming a field-threatening situation. Accordingly, I have fitted the club sound meter with fresh batteries and will attempt calibration with 2 high quality sound meters owned by Danny Anderson and Anthony Lye. If this is unsuccessful I intend to request the purchase of a better quality sound meter. Either way I intend to obtain from M.A.A.Q. the sound testing guidelines and train myself and several other members in its use. I also will call upon our committee to establish a set of guidelines by which any member can be called upon to submit his or her model for sound testing. For our new members, we have over 100 DVDs in the club library as well as many books. The club subscribes to four overseas aeromodelling magazines, covering all aspects of the hobby. Catch up with myself or Darren Robinson to be shown the library and to book out items, which we generally like returned within a month. Dave Harper PYLON RACING MARYBOROUGH QUEENS BIRTHDAY The weekend started out cold, cloudy and potentially rainy, with 4 flyers from our club making the trip to Maryborough for the biggest weekend of racing in Australia, and this is considered more prestigious than the nationals at Christmas! Although 4 from our club started the trip north only one came through to Mary borough: Don, Andrew and Sven all deciding not to take a chance on the rain and turned back, as for myself it would have to be a cyclone to stop me (Allan Taylor) The event we fly is the Q500 which is now an international event being flown in USA, ASIA, EUROPE, SOUTH AFRICA and nationally in AUST. It was very tightly contested as with every one having the same engine and airframe it comes down to your flying on the day. With entries from every state in Australia I found myself flying against a couple from WA in very close contested heats. At times you could not see any space between the planes and sometimes the ground as they hurtled around the pylons for ten very exciting laps. Unfortunately I did not place too well, something to do with losing my plane in the swamp the week before and having to rebuild that week! Preparation is the key to good racing, although this cannot be given as an excuse. The eventual winner was a young 16 year old from Toowoomba with W.A. flyer 2nd and as for myself coming in 7 out of 16 flyers in our division of Q500. Overall for the weekend there were over 50 racers on parade so if you see any of our boys at the field with V tails going hard turning left and need more info, ask, they’ll be happy to help. Our next meeting will again be in Maryborough for state champs and then we have one closer at Coolum, so till next time Go hard turn left Allan Taylor (I inadvertently omitted this report from last issue- sorry! DH)
DON’T FORGET THE SWAP MEET ON SATURDAY 26TH JULY THE DAY BEFORE THE AIRSHOW! PLEASE GET YOUR NAMES IN TO HELP OUT ON AIRSHOW DAY….27TH JULY.
