Presidents Report.
This will be my last report as President as I will not be nominating for a second term. There are many able and capable members who can take the club forward to bigger and better things.

During this year the club has progressed from preliminary negotiations with the Wamuran Club to welcoming them into our club and having a Development Application for the new field approved by the MBRC.

At the club general meeting in June, the members voted to change the club name to the most popular choice which was the 'Sports Aeromodellers Association Moreton Bay Region', which is more relevant to present times.

The club is now in the development phase of the process and the sub-committee is working towards obtaining a lease on the new field. However this may not be granted until later in the year.
After doing an inspection of the present field the management committee has made a decision to postpone the airshow until the 4th of October due to the saturated area.

I would like to thank all of the tireless workers in the club for their on going efforts in keeping the club going. I would especially like to thank the treasurer Gordon Grant and secretary Peter Tomkins who are doing an outstanding job and put a lot of time into the club.

Happy Flying
Peter Atkinson

Secretaries Report.
We as a club are in the process of making history. Firstly the proud and highly respected name of PRAMS ceased to exist as of the 16th July 2009. Only to be replaced with Sports Aeromodellers Association Moreton Bay Region Inc. or SAAMBR.

This amalgamation of both PRAMS and Wamuran Model Flyers was achieved to facilitate the development of the new flying field. In regard to the new field, the sub committee members have put in considerable work to date but really have not scratched the surface of what has to be done. It will be some time before we will be in a position to even start to put any thought in relation to layout, requirements etc before the members for their input.

In relation to the new club, put your creative thinking caps on. The new club requires a new logo. Again we are holding a competition for a new logo to be decided by a vote of the combined members.

Elsewhere you will see mention in relation to the regulations regarding heavy model requirements. The club will and has to strictly enforce those rules and a sign will be placed in the Tx pound to this effect.

We only have 2 months left before the Charity Airshow so it is extremely important that we get someone to pick up the PRO position so that the final planning and arrangements can be made for the Airshow. I will assist where I can but we do need someone running the show.

P. Tompkins,
Secretary SAAMBR.

NOTICES FROM THE COMMITTEE!
Drink Fridge
As From 1/8/09 the HONESTY Drink fridge will be available for a four week trial period. Hopefully we will not have any problems with people taking drinks and not paying for them and if this is the case the Honesty will remain. Steve Lightowler is taking this facility over from Frank Grosvenor and if he find there are drinks missing then we will cease this service to members and the only drinks available to members will be from the Canteen when it is open. Members attending the working bees are NOT entitled to a free drink. They get a free breakfast but not free drinks. The money box will be locked so bring the right money. Ok let us all play it fair and square so that we can all enjoy drinks during the summer months.

Working Bee 2/8/09
Bob Moore advises that there is no work pressing at the moment at the Sid Bray field. This being the case the WORKING BEE scheduled for the first Sunday in August is CANCELLED
You can all have a good sleep in of or come and fly early.

CLUB LOGO COMPETITION
We have a new name - now we need a new logo! Submit your ideas to the committee for judging at the August General Meeting. A good prize awaits the winning entry!

INSTRUCTORS COURSE:
It is proposed to run an instructors course at the field in the near future. Any members having 2 years or more Gold Wings experience and wishing to go for their Instructors Wings are asked to contact the Secretary for details.

GATE LOCK COMBINATION
The combination of the lock at the bottom gate to the field will be changed on 1st August. Members will be advised of the new combination along with their MAAA cards.

Membership No Name Payment
Late in June I received an electronic Transfer of $237.00 from the "Railway Credit Union" however the member sending the money did not include his code or his name. This being the case I have accounted the money to a suspense account. Could the guilty member please e-mail or phone me with his details so that I can issue the correct receipt and register him with MAAQ.

Regards Gordon Grant

Membership Receipts
Due to a few enquiries I advise that receipts are issued for all payments of membership fees. If you paid by mail or by electronic transfer then your receipt will be posted to you week commencing 20/7/09 together with the new Gate Combination Number and your Transmitter Sticker. The Gate Number is to be changed on Saturday 1st August. Your MAAA card will be posted to you as soon as they come to hand. All receipts for payments by Mail or Electronic Transfer after 14th July will be forwarded to you together with the gate combination and your Transmitter Sticker and probably with your MAAA card towards the end of the month.

NOTE. There are about 75 members that have not paid their membership fees for the 2010 year as yet. If you have not paid your fees for this year you cannot fly at the Sid Bray Field or any other MAAQ/MAAA fields as you are not insured until the membership money is received.

MINUTES OF GENERAL MEETING
HELD ON 26TH JUNE 2009 AT LAWNTON COMMUNITY HALL.

Meeting opened at 7.30pm.

Chairman P Atkinson.

Apologies: K Turton, D Robinson.

The minutes of the last meeting having been published in Airwaves it was moved by B Evans, seconded G Reid that they be accepted. Carried.

Business arising from the minutes: New name for the club: all received ballots for the new name were counted and the majority voted for Sports Aeromodellers Association Moreton Bay Region.
Moved D Harper, seconded D Anderson that this name be adopted. Carried.

Repairs to the Kabota ride-on mower: The treasurer reported that a quote of $2,140 had been given for the required repairs. Moved G Kennedy, seconded B Evans that the quote be accepted and the repair authorized. Carried.

President's Report: At today's inspection it was decided that the field was too wet to continue with the Charity Airshow as scheduled for 26th July, it has been postponed until 4th October.

Secretary's Report: The Griffin flying field has now been registered with CASA and will appear on NOTAMS etc.

Correspondence: As per the Correspondence Book.

New Members: Several applications have been received minus a proposer - the people concerned have been contacted and asked to obtain one.

Treasurer's Report: The report was read out to the meeting and tabled.

CFI Report: Gold Wings certificate and wings was presented to L Wherrett.

Heli Report: D Sawyer was congratulated on his efforts for the Heli Fun Fly - the club made a handsome profit on the day from registration fees and the canteen, which sold out of everything!

Library and Airwaves Report: The 2009 Joe Naal DVD is available and will be ordered.

Amalgamation Committee Report: P Hetherman reported that the meeting with the Wamuran Club had gone well and regular monthly meetings have been scheduled for the 3rd Wed of each month. Wamuran members have agreed to join SAAMBR as of July 1st, to formalize their 'de facto' membership as approved earlier. The new club name is to be registered with MAAA etc ASAP so that Council records can be updated on the Uhlmann Rd field application. Members of the committee are working to comply with the various conditions in the development approval for the Uhlmann Rd field. Due to this workload P Tompkins announced that he will no longer be able to handle the club PRO duties and asked for someone to take them over.
Moved B Evans, seconded G Clark that the reports be accepted. Carried.

General Business: Ian Lay has donated a Canary Trainer to the club, delivered by B Bates. Ian is not renewing his membership due to ill health. Ian was thanked and the donation was accepted by acclamation.

The two-way radios are available again in the club room for use by anyone searching for a model in the mangroves. New dry cell batteries have been supplies but will be left out of the radios until required

Meeting closed at 8.35pm.

Committee Bylines
At the recent committee meeting the following matters were discussed:
Dave Anderson gave the committee a briefing on the rules for large models. It was agreed that we need to tighten up policing of these rules and to make sure all members who wish to operate models over 7kg weight are conversant with the requirements. If there is any doubt that any model is over the 7kg limit there is a spring balance in the clubroom that can be used to check the weight. Any model over 7kg MAY NOT BE FLOWN until it has been inspected and certified, and the certificate must be produced on request.

New member D Veitch was approved.

Club assets have been listed and valued to bring our property insurance up to date. The club library is also to be listed and valued.

The fire extinguishers at the field all need to be inspected, P Tompkins to action.

New DVDs for the library will be ordered when Traplet receive stock in Sydney as overseas postage has become prohibitive.

Soil testing at the Uhlmann Rd field has been carried out with encouraging results.

Frank Grosvenor has offered to run a meat tray raffle to raise funds for the club. It was agreed that Frank should be allowed a one month trial to judge members' response.

Col Parry was the winner of the new club name competition, and it was agreed that his prize for suggesting the winning name should be 4 litres of premix fuel.

The lock combination on the bottom gate will be changed on 1st August. Other locks on the containers etc need maintenance, and will be taken to the locksmith for servicing.

Library News
I will be ordering some new DVDs from Traplet in Sydney once their stock arrives - this avoids paying excessive postage from overseas. We have had to put a value on the library for insurance purposes, and in the process of checking we found there are numerous old VHS tapes clogging up the bottom of the library cupboard! Some may be worth converting to DVD format, and we are looking at that, but if any member would like to check out the old tapes with a view to taking them off our hands for a small donation to the library fund, please contact me to check them out.

Pylon Report from Maryborough on 9-10th May 2009.
The weekend racing started a little late on the Saturday with the local member for Maryborough at the field to open the new shed. The gaming commission donated majority of the funds and it is was a great moment for the Maryborough club. With approximately 30 entries for the weekend and the weather being absolutely perfect we were in for some good racing. The racing was close all weekend and in a couple of cases too close. As two of the planes came around #2 pylon one of the aircraft run up the backend and with a poof of bits it was in the ground and his racing was over for the weekend the other aircraft was fine and after landing and checked over flew in the next heat. The next incident was when an aircraft rounded pylon #3 it was too low and hit the pylon about ½ way up all I saw was 5billion bits and a fuselage going at mach 1 up the field and stopped about 50mts from the original crash site. Overall we had fun, yours truly came in a respectable 3rd with the 2 young Toowoomba kids both beating me. Maybe next meet I will jump on their planes - I think it's the only way I will beat them!

Next meet is at Grafton for AMPRA; this is the top gun stuff, we will have pilots from all over Australia. This is considered bigger than the nationals and will have approx 50/60 entries over the Queen's Birthday weekend so 3 days of flat out racing

Go hard turn left

Allan Taylor
