PRESIDENT’S REPORT
On
Wednesday the 24th of September the management committee had a meeting
with the local councillor Julie Greer and some council planning people
regarding a future flying field for our club. Councillor Greer is well
acquainted with our club through previous airshows . We explained the
present situation to them re Sid Bray selling his land, probably to a
developer. Also the encroaching development in this area and the likelihood
of future noise complaints against our club. At this point in time our
club does not have an alternative flying field and it will be some time
before the council can even look at our request.
At the committee meeting on the 8th of October we had a visit from the
president and secretary of the Wamuran Model Flyers to inform us about
their proposed new flying field. They have been negotiating with the local
council and state government for the last three years and are in the final
stages of those negotiations to obtain a 96 acre block of land in Uhlmann
Rd, Burpengary approx. opposite the gun club.
As their club is only small, about twelve members, they are keen to amalgamate
with our club to develop the site into a flying field. In short they have
the land [negotiations in the final stages] and our club has the capital,
equipment eg. mowers, tractor, tools and two hundred members. In practical
terms it makes sense to join forces and have one strong club. Also the
prospect of our clubs amalgamating is more acceptable to the council and
gives extra weight to proceedings.
The management committee has called a special general meeting on Friday
the 28th of November 08 to discuss and vote on commencing negotiations
between the Wamuran Model Flyers and our club re amalgamation of our two
clubs to obtain, develop and lease a new flying field in Uhlmann Rd, Burpengary.
A proxy voting form is included in the October Airwaves for those members
who will not be present at the special general meeting in November to
enable all club members to cast their vote.
Points to consider before casting your vote.
Our club has known for years that eventually we would have to find a new
flying field and now Sid is selling his land.
We have the offer of 96 acres of land just another 20 or so minutes further
up the highway from our field.
The local council supports the prospect of our two clubs amalgamating
and is positive towards the idea of developing a model flying field in
that area. There is a likelihood of getting a lease on the land.
If the proposal were to be voted down, what is the alternative ?
Do you have a viable one ?
Who is going to put in the time and effort to find another 96 acres of
land. Are you willing to do that ?
The auction will be held after the special general meeting.

NOTICE
Notice is given that the management committee is calling
a Special General Meeting on Friday 28 Nov 08 to discuss and vote on a
proposal to commence negotiations between the Wamuran Model Flyers Inc.
and our club regarding the amalgamation of our two clubs for the purpose
of obtaining, developing and leasing a new flying field in Uhlmann Road,
Burpengary.
Would any member like to earn working bee
credits by doing the breakfasts on working bees ?
Raffle tickets for Xmas raffle - $2 each or 3 for $5 prize is a

Field Maintenance
For those of you who have visited the field of late you may have noticed
five steel work benches in the pit area. These benches have been donated
by the IGA Supermarket at Deagon, and were delivered by George Falcon.
The rubber mats on the benches were donated by Neville Moon. The Management
Committee would like to thank all those concerned for their generous donations.
The next working bee on Nov 2nd will mainly be concerned with finishing
the drainage work between the runways and repairing fences. I should be
finished by 10am.
Committee Bylines
At the recent committee meeting the following matters were discussed:
The main part of the meeting was concerned with the report by Bill Sharpe
and Jim Gibson on their negotiations with council for a lease on the proposed
flying field at Uhlmann Rd., Burpengary. After three years of work it
appears that a lease may be forthcoming shortly we live in hope,
and Bill and Jim have promised to keep us posted on progress. As noted
above, the proposal to amalgamate the Wamuran Club and PRAMS needs serious
consideration, and should be beneficial to all concerned.
Therese Ross has resigned as Canteen operator, and Dave Wherretts
partner Jenny has agreed to run the canteen on Sundays. Any members or
partners etc who would be willing to run the canteen on Saturdays would
be welcome! The proposal that the canteen operator(s) be paid for their
efforts will be discussed at the general Meeting.
There has been considerable confusion caused by the MAAA Bronze Wings
Test and the PRAMS Solo Proficiency Test being different. It was decided
that the MAAA test be adopted as the standard, and the PRAMS test be discontinued.
This brings our club into line with most other clubs and removes the confusion.
The Heli and Glider Day has been put back to Nov 9th to avoid the working
bee. Both events will be essentially fun fly events, so dig out all those
helis and electric gliders and come and join in! The field will probably
be closed to general flying for an hour or so for these events on the
Sunday morning.
Due to the uncertainty of our tenure at Griffin and the current financial
situation the treasurer is to check and amend our budget. An updated budget
will be presented in due course.
As one of the Club Championship rounds didnt happen, the results
from the Life Members Day comps will be incorporated into the Club
Championship results. It was agreed that the CFI could spend up to $300
on prizes for the club champs to be split between 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
The CFI also asked that any complaints by members of unsafe flying etc
should be submitted in writing to the committee, NOT given verbally to
the CFI! Only if this procedure is followed will any action be taken to
investigate problems.
The extra pavers in the pit area and around the Tx compound have been
well received. Some road base will be bought to consolidate the new areas
of the car park.
It was agreed that premixed heli fuel be offered with a 10% discount on
25L purchases. Plenty of fuel stocks currently in hand.
The secretary is to purchase a new address stamp and common seal stamp
from Australia Post.
It was suggested that the treasurers printer be upgraded to provide
more legible reports. To be investigated by Dan Sawyer, who has also promised
to replace the clubs PC at the clubroom. (Since installed, thanks
Dan!)
A report on helicopter activities to be included in the agenda for General
and Committee meetings.
Fran Sutherland has resigned as Assistant CFI due to work commitments.
Any instructor willing to take on this position is asked to contact Kerry
Turton to discuss it.
FLYING
HIGH
BY C.F.I.
Round 5 of the club championship was flown on Sunday 28 September, 2008
under the control of myself and Ben Staines. This was run in conjunction
with the Bill & Ben life member trophies. A field of 18 members took
part. The task was a flight to be completed within a predetermined time
without access to any form of timekeeping assistance. All models survived
the competition without damage and all appeared to enjoy the event. The
result was a tie for first place between Andrew Holloway and Tim Mew.
A fly-off for first place also resulted in a tie so the Bill and Ben trophies
were awarded to the 2 first places. Third place was awarded to Todd White.
The next round will be held on a date to be announced under the control
of guest contest director, Keith Berry. Join in and have some fun.
Prizes for the club championship have been determined with some assistance
from club finances. First and second placegetters will win joy flights
in a Fornier powered glider from Sunshine Soaring. This a new business
operated by Trevor Mills and Trevor has provided the 2 flights at a substantial
discount. Trevor is offering great discounts to P.R.A.M.S. members. I
have been for a flight and thoroughly recommend that you give it a try.
HINT FOR THE MONTH.
Do not re-use wing retaining rubber bands. Cheap as chips to buy and they
do deteriorate from fuel. Replace each flying day.
Do you have a good modelling hint? Let me know. Best hint of the year
will win nothing.
WINGS TESTING
I will be available for testing after the next club contest if required.
SOAPBOX:- FREQUENCY KEYS.
Keys must be removed from the board after each flight. Yes this includes
the 2.4 ghz. Board also.If you leave your key at home, DO NOT FLY. Do
not use someone elses key, a piece of paper, car keys or any other
substitute. This is a club rule.

Due to time constraints points won at the Life Members competition will
count towards the club championship at the end of the year.
Due to a number of frequency keys being left in the board overnight the
following bye-law was proposed by K Turton and seconded by D Hollis: 1)
The first person to use the board every morning is to remove any keys
left from previous sessions. 2) Should this not be done, keys may ONLY
be removed thereafter when all models are on the ground and all engines
stopped. Carried these will be included in the bye-laws currently
under review.
It was suggested that safety guidelines to be taught for the Bronze Wings
certificate be reviewed to account for electric as well as glow powered
models.

five more pit bays at the left end of the pits. In order to install these
as soon as possible working bees will be held on Sundays 5th and 12th

Pylon Report
Coolum Classic
What a great weekend we had, 5 competitors in the Coolum classic from
PRAMS.
First of all I would like to thank all those members who came to us wishing
us good luck for the weekend and for those who made the trip to Coolum
to see what pylon racing is all about, we at the Brisbane Racing Club
would like to thank you all for the support
The weekend opened with rain threatening and with Don, Andrew, Sven, Chris
all threaten to tear the sky apart we were of, Sven putting in flights
that were showing lack of practice around the 130 meter Corse but to his
credit he improved his times every race, Don was doing it hard having
not only to fly a demanding 6 pylon races he was calling for Andrew and
Sven in their individual races. Andrew was having problems with a soft
mount which was letting the mounting bolts pull through so he could not
keep his engine tight. I was calling for young Chris who is still amazing
all by being more than competitive with his Q500 racer and then stepping
up to the next class from Q500 (slightly quicker planes) he beat all of
us coming in 4th. As for myself (Allan) I had a disarterious start to
the day but recovered to come in 4th in the Q500 class.
The next meet is down at Grafton for the state of origin weekend with
a number of flyers from n.s.w. all ready to take the state of origin.
This will be our final meet for the year, So until our next report
