President's Report
President's Report

Hi to all Members, Welcome to this month's Airwaves. Firstly it has been bought to my attention that some members have been verbally attacking members of the committee. I would like to say that whilst not all members will agree with all decisions made by the committee, the committee as a whole is working for and in best interests of the club. I would ask members to consider alternate ways of communicating your concerns and opinions rather than as a personal attack towards individual committee members.

Moving on to happier things, I would like to thank all those members including the junior member who submitted ideas for the new club logo. The new logo was voted for and passed at the September general meeting. You will see it being implemented in all club paraphernalia from now on.

The "Life Members" day was blown away but as promised the day has been rescheduled for the 8th November. The "Charity Open Day" has been scheduled for 14th March 2010 and organization is well underway already, remember the success of this is dependent on you, the members. A big thank you goes out to all those involved with the Navy Cadets fun fly day which gave us the opportunity to iron out the bugs for the Council fun fly day.

Issues regarding helicopter instruction and practice in the hovering area have been bought to the committee's attention and will be discussed at the next general meeting. The review of club instructors and other relevant procedures is proceeding and some innovations and processes are coming on line already. Thank you for the feedback from recent new members, all comments have been taken on board.

Congratulations to all who participated in the instructors training course held on the weekend of 17/18 October, thank you for your time and commitment to the club and the sport in general.
Happy Flying!!!!!

Grant Clark
President
SAAMBR

Heli Fun Fly, Sunday 25th October.
Well the day has been and gone. Not as many as the June event, but fun all the same! 23 registered pilots in attendance, and a bunch more spectators.
The wind was a bit on the high side come lunch time, but didn't prevent most from getting out there and getting amongst it.
Highlight for the day was certainly Dr John's new Henseleit 3d rigid being flown by Gavin Broadbent. Man that thing is a bullet on rails!!
Gav and I reckon it would have been cracking about 220kph with a tail wind.
Noel and myself laid down the smack with our 500's challenging each other and both of us ended up with grass stains on the mains!
All in all, a fun day, but the consensus is that we won't hold another one in Oct. and just stick with the June fun fly.
Noel and I manned the gate and checked every one of the 23 pilots that flew and can confirm with 100% accuracy that ALL pilots were current MAAQ registered pilots.
Special thanks to Frank and his offsider (can never remember his name) for putting on another great feed!
The $230 gate takings were passed on to club funds..
Daniel Sawyer

COMMITTEE BYLINES
At the recent committee meeting the following matters were discussed:

Repairs to the cattle grid are in hand.

We are still receiving membership applications without an existing member's nomination. When you pass out an application form to a prospective member, please make sure they know to get a seconder to sign the form for them.

The review of the club Bye-Laws is to be done shortly.

There are now two club trainers in flying condition, two more are being refurbished. CFI Darryl Thomas is looking after these.

Members who have not yet renewed their membership are to be contacted - make sure anybody flying has an up-to-date yellow sticker on their frequency tag!

Dan Sawyer and Noel Kerr were thanked for attending to help formulate the rules for the heli hovering area.

We have had a very welcome donation of 400 litres of diesel fuel for the tractor - many thanks to Renee Brown for that!

The old PRAMS signs have been taken down at the field and new SAAMBR ones are to be obtained and erected.

The Memorial Board in the clubroom is to be relocated on the opposite side to make room for a notice board to be mounted on the northern wall.

Now we have a new club logo quotes are being obtained for club name badges.

Negotiations with the Moreton Bay Region Council on the new flying field are progressing well - the council is to install the entry at the northern boundary including the cover over the drain at the entry. The club has to finance the installation of a culvert over the other drain further in - work is in hand on this.

Several councillors are coming to our existing field on 13th Nov to see a demonstration of flying etc. We hope to give them an enjoyable experience!

The library has a new DVD on the Flying Circus from La Ferte Alais in France - huge scale models on display!

Calum Pollock attended the meeting to give us a run down on Workplace Health & Safety issues. Calum is currently doing a course on the subject, and when qualified will be appointed as the club's WH&S member. He was appointed as an ordinary member of the committee in the interim.

Calum has also helped with the maintenance of the tractor, which is much appreciated.

Thanks were also expressed to Barry Evans for supplying some new windsocks, and to Ben Staines for a new national flag for our flagpole. Thanks guys!
