COMMITTEE BYLINES

The new committee as listed above has come up with a whole raft of ideas and suggestions for improving the facilities at the field and for making the operation of the club easier. All members are invited to study these suggestions and contact Warren, Andrew or Danny to clarify or discuss any queries you may have in regard to these items.

Some things have already happened: we have been donated a cupboard by Peter Tompkins, which you will probably have noticed in the clubroom already. This is for instructors gear and general storage. We may yet receive another similar cupboard to replace the library shelves, and make storage of the magazines tidier. Many thanks to Peter for his donation!

Therese has offered to open the canteen seven days a week! This is dependent on member demand, so mid-week fliers, support her all you can! It seems that daily specials are already being offered – thanks to Therese for her efforts there!

A letter has been sent to Pine Rivers Shire Council regarding the proposed flying site – we are awaiting response.

Thanks also to George Falcon for the tables in the pit area.

Now here is a list of the suggestions that are on the table, in no order of priority:

  • Concreting of the pit area to the left of the transmitter pound
  • Putting in a pit area to the right of the heli hovering area
  • Allowing 3D heli flying in the current hovering area
  • Acquiring a third container to store club equipment, including the tractor/slasher we hope to receive shortly
  • Increasing the amount the committee can spend without consulting a General meeting from $400 to $2000
  • Reverting to quarterly business meetings with the intervening meetings for social activities, including show and tell and guest speakers
  • Amending the approval system for new members – potential members to be listed in Airwaves and failing any queries raised to the committee, membership to be automatically granted.
  • Requesting PRSC to upgrade the road between top and bottom gates, which is apparently a gazetted road.
  • You all have until the October meeting to digest these suggestions, while the committee get to grips with running the club – please don’t hesitate to discuss any concerns you have with the committee!

BILL AND BEN’S LIFE MEMBERS DAY COMPETTION

The day was a great success from all accounts, and fun was had by all. Bill Rowland’s competition was a take off - loop – landing comp. First place went to Bob Moore, second was Fran Sutherland and third Danny Anderson.

Ben Staines’ comp was for a nominated time flight. Ben himself won that – first time he’s managed to get his name on the trophy! Second was Bob Kirk and third Bob Moore.

The electric kit donated by Hobby Garage for the best combined result was won by Bob Moore – well done Bob!

There are a number of other members who help keep the club running, and whom members may wish to contact. They don’t get listed on the regular committee listing but here are some contact details for them:

PR Officer: Peter Tompkins. Ph H 38822901 M 0406992749 email: email

Fuel Coordinator: Dave Wherrett Ph H 38881567 email: email

Membership/ Website: Danny Hollis  email: email

Frank Grosvenor and Brian Bates also help keep the club space running sweetly – thanks guys!

    LIBRARY NEWS

The number of DVDs in the library continues to grow – well over 80 now! We’ve had a number of welcome donations lately, thanks to all our donors! For our newer members, there are also a number of very good books in the library on various modelling subjects including building, covering, detailing, workshop tips and various piloting books, also designing and aerodynamics. In today’s busy world reading often gets neglected, but that’s where all the good knowledge is, in good books! We also have a growing collection of modelling magazines, another great source of modelling inspiration, as well as several plans catalogues for those of us who still like to build our own models…most are available on-line, also many members have large collections of plans gathered over the years – if you’re looking for a particular plan, let me know and I’ll mention it here – very likely some member has a copy you can borrow! Copying plans is easy and pretty cheap these days – there are numerous plan copy shops around this area.

No shame file this time, but I’d ask all members to return borrowed items as soon as you’ve finished with them! Put them by your flight box then you won’t forget them! There is a return box in the club room, on top of the cupboard, where you can leave returns if I‘m not there. If anyone would like to join our small band of assistant librarians and have a key to the library cupboard – come talk to me!
